Dr Steve Malins, DOM

Dr Steven Malins, DOM welcomes professional connections to connect with him on Linked

Dr Steven Malins graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. While at UNM he took courses in emergency medicine as an EMT-B and was certified as a wilderness first responder. Steven then went on to get his Master’s of Science in Oriental Medicine at Southwest Acupuncture College (SWAC). Having a keen interest in Chinese philosophy as well as ecology helped steer him towards a career in Oriental Medicine and acupuncture. Steven’s passion for Oriental Medicine comes from nourishing individual health in order to improve the quality of life of the community at large.

While at SWAC Steven was the co-chair and then the chair of the student support committee. After graduating he became the Vice President of the New Mexico Society of Acupuncture and Asian Medicine. In addition to using his training to bring phenomenal health to his patients, Steven is dedicated to increasing access to Acupuncture and Oriental medicine for everyone. To this end he has worked with the NMSAAM in its efforts to reform the expanded practice laws for DOMs in New Mexico, first as the student liaison to NMSAAM (New Mexico Society of Acupuncture and Asian Medicine) and later as vice president. Along with private 1-on-1 treatments, Steven is committed to providing low-cost treatments in a community setting, allowing more patients to reach their best health through oriental medicine.

Topaz Messenger (What is in a name?)
Topaz is a stone that is associated with healing and balance in many western traditions. Like any effective medicine, Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture can be used by anyone of any or no faith. However, Steven feels a personal connection to the archangel Raphael, who is represented by the stone Topaz.

Steven chose the word Messenger over other alternatives like "healer" or "acupuncture". Steven believes in integrating as much knowledge and experience from both modern and classical sources to aid his patients healing. In classical medicine, it is understood that the doctor does not perform or make the healing happen. Even the best doctors, of any tradition, only activate the healing potential of their patients. By naming his practice with the term Messenger Steven is reminded that he is only the messenger reminding the patients body how to heal itself.
